A rare and historic 10ft x 5ft Billiard or Snooker table in the Gainsborough manner by Gillow's of Lancaster circa 1800 ,standing on eight elegant chamfered and shaped legs, with brass mounts fitted to the frame, legs and cushion friezes. The simple but beautiful construction techniques of this table are delightful, the table almost appears to be floating, the hoop shaped pockets are indicative of early Georgian billiard tables, the slate bed is in three sections. The cushion edges feature a beautiful delicate curve with brass lion heads, we have re-rubbered these with NR professional rubbers and fitted a new "Strachan" traditional English green cloth to the bed and cushions. A similar billiard table by Gillows can be seen at Nostell Priory Wakefield, West Yorkshire with a slender frame and applied brass mounts.
